September 18th is Chiropractic's 114th birthday!

Posted on 2009-09-02 06:38:29

On Friday September 18th we'll celebrate Chiropractic's 114th birthday!!! We will have a display setup in the office (as we have each year) with many chiropractic items, historical texts written in the early 1900's, pictures, and many more artifacts and videos throughout the month. Chiropractic was founded in 1895 see the first video for the story of Harvey Lilard and chiropractic's founding father DD Palmer. Early on those in the medical profession claimed that chiropractors were "practicing medicine" without a license and as a result many early pioneers in our great profession were jailed for their practices. As you know they were not, and we still do not as a profession "practice medicine" we practice chiropractic, a separate and distinct profession. These chiropractors, while jailed, were continuing to practice chiropractic. The fellow prisoners, the guards, the captains, etc.. would line up in the jailhouse to receive their adjustment. They understood how profoundly the adjustments impacted their lives and were willing to go to great lengths to continue receiving care from their "doc". And to think today many people won't begin care unless their insurance covers it or will drop out of care if their insurance benefits are exhausted. What would you do if someone told you that for the rest of your days on earth you could not have another life enhancing chiropractic adjustment??? These early pioneers are the ones we have to thank for the privilege of receiving the care we do today. Here's a video clip of the late Dr. Herbert Ross Reaver... the most jailed chiropractor in history. Early video's from the Palmer clinics and classrooms... Continue to spread the word about how chiropractic has helped yourself and family live healthier lives. Sharing your story and introducing someone to chiropractic can literally save their life. Continue being a life saver for your friends and loved ones! Thank you for being an active vital part of our vision for a "Healthier World One Family At A Time". Be well, Dr. Gary

Save The Bay

Posted on 2009-08-03 14:41:50

Save_The_Bay4.jpg

Dear Friends of BFC,

The Narragansett Bay brings beauty and richness to our lives year round. It serves us in many ways for science and research, boating, and fishing and asks nothing in return but to be kept clean. I am writing to ask for your support to help keep our bay healthy and clean for all to enjoy now and for future generations.

For years now the Rhode Island Chiropractic Alliance has worked closely with Save The Bay to by offering our services in exchange for donations. We have had yearly "Save The Bay" days in our office and they have been a big success. Each year on the day of the event the RI Chiropractors are adjusting the swimmers prior to the event to help them perform at their best for the race.

As many of you know I have my sights and training set on the Firmman 1/2 Ironman race in September and as part of my preparation for that event I have committed to swimming the 1.7 miles form Jamestown to Newport on Saturday morning August 15th. So this year rather than have a Save The Bay day in the office and asking for donations I am asking for you support my efforts in the swim. If you click here it will bring you to my fund raising page. Any amount that you are able to contribute is greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your support!

No limits,

Dr. Gary

2009 St. Peter's Parish Vincentian Spirit Award

On behalf of Brodeur Family Chiropractic and all our wonderful patient's Dr. Gary was proud to accept the 2009 St. Peter's Parish Vincentian Spirit Award.  This award is in appreciation for assistance in the St. Vincent DePaul Society's "Food For The Needy" collection that we do each year.

"It is definitely an honor and a privilege to accept this award for Brodeur Family Chiropractic. We are blessed to care for so many wonderful people and the food drives we have each year are just one small way we can help to give back to our community. I  am humbled by how our patient's "show up" and give unselfishly especially during these trying economic times when they could easily pull back and give less. A heartfelt thanks to all of our patient's and to St. Peter's for acknowledging us with this award."

Thank and may God continue to Bless all of us in our efforts to help others during these challenging times.

HydroMassage Lets Kids Treat Mom to Free Massage this Mother’s Daydry_hydrotherapy_AM200NEW2.jpg

April 22, 2009, Warwick, Rhode Island – This Mother’s Day, kids of all ages can treat their mothers to a fabulous and free massage. To participate, kids simply visit www.hydromassage.com/mothersday to download a coloring-page coupon (for the young kids) or a gift certificate (for the young at heart) that entitles their mom to a free massage at an area HydroMassage location. There are over 700 locations in 49 states participating in the promotion.

Mothers spend so much time worrying about everyone else in their lives, they rarely have a moment to themselves - much less time for a massage. Now in just 10 minutes, they can achieve the stress relief and rejuvenation of a relaxing massage with HydroMassage. HydroMassage is a fully customizable, user-friendly massage system that allows users remain clothed and comfortably dry throughout their massage.

Perfect for busy moms everywhere, HydroMassage is a cost-effective alternative for those who enjoy traditional, hands-on massage but don’t have the time or budget to indulge regularly.  Branded “The Best Daily Massage”, HydroMassage is an amenity that has become increasingly popular in spas, fitness clubs, salons, and chiropractic clinics.

“We felt this was a great opportunity to partner with our customers nationwide to do something special for Mother’s Day,” commented Dave Quick, CEO of HydroMassage. “It’s great for mothers, because they love massage and also for children of all ages, who will have the opportunity to give their mom a very special gift for free.”

HydroMassage sessions typically range between 10-15 minutes in length, and are priced so that people can literally afford to enjoy them every day. “We have a lot of stay-at-home moms who are on their feet a lot running errands and taking care of 2 to 3 kids,” says Mike Marler, Spa Director of Planet Beach in Meridian, Idaho. “They love it because it helps with back aches after they’ve carried kids around most of the day, and they all wish they could take it home with them.”

Stress Relief Day

Posted on 2009-04-09 08:19:40

FOR RELEASE ON OR BEFORE APRIL 15th, 2009:

For further information contact: Dr. Gary Brodeur, Brodeur Family Chiropractic 401-463-9520

FREE Massages on Tax Day
Hundreds of business owners across the nation unite to eliminate stress by giving out free HydroMassages on April 15th.

Clearwater, Florida Tax season is never fun, but in the midst of the current economic crisis, stress levels are likely higher than in years past. So to help Americans relax, hundreds of HydroMassage® owners nationwide have joined together to offer free 10-minute massages on April 15th.

Branded “The Best Daily Massage”, HydroMassage is an amenity that has become increasingly popular in spas, fitness clubs, salons, and chiropractic clinics in recent years because it offers a unique, more cost effective solution for those who enjoy massage, but don’t have the time or budget to indulge regularly.

Dave Quick, CEO of HydroMassage, commented, “With all the doom and gloom in the news these days, we asked thousands of our customers nationwide to participate in this effort to give Americans a little pick-me-up. Denny’s gives away free food- why can’t we give away free massages?”

HydroMassage sessions typically range between 10-15 minutes in length, and are often priced so that people can literally afford to come in and use them everyday.

“The real question is, where else are you going to get a 10-minute massage everyday for 10 to 15 bucks a month? You’re not” noted Bob Shepherd, owner of Gold’s Gym in Alexandria, VA. “Exercise and massage- it’s the perfect way to help relieve stress, which everybody is feeling right now. And, to be able to do this for $10-$15 is worth it. There’s no question about it.”

Based on projected demand, we suggest calling HydroMassage locations in advance to schedule a free massage on April 15th.

The local Hydromassage Center for Rhode Island is at Brodeur Family Chiropractic. Call 401-463-9520 now to reserve your appointment in advance as these 10 minute time slots are expected to fill up quickly.

More reasons to "Take Shape For Life"...

Posted on 2009-04-08 21:23:13

You may be aware of the amazing success that people on our Take Shape For Life Program are having and if you need any more incentive to begin your journey NOW.... here it is... from The Lancet, Volume 373, Issue 9669, Pages 1083 - 1096, 28 March 2009

Around the world, increasing body-mass index (BMI) is a major public concern. Rightly so, according to this international collaborative analysis of almost 1 million people, followed from middle age in 57 prospective studies. A J-shaped mortality curve is observed, with optimal survival at a BMI of 22.5–25 kg/m2. Above this range, mortality from several causes—especially vascular diseases—was increased. Moderate obesity (BMI 30–35) was associated with 3 years’ loss of life. People with extreme obesity (BMI 40–50) lost 10 years of life, equivalent to the years lost by lifetime smoking.

What's your BMI? Click here to calculate BMI on our TSFL web page. If you are in an unhealthy range then call us at 401-463-9520 to arrange a consultation to see how we can best help you reach your goals.

An "EXTREME" fundraiser

Posted on 2009-03-25 21:38:02

Dear Friends of BFC,

For the Silva Family of Warwick adopting and fostering children in their home has become their life's mission and purpose. Last year they were the recipients of a beautiful new home on the TV show Extreme Homemakeover. Since that life altering moment they have been able to give back and help more children and families in need. In line with their passionate mission they have put together a fundraiser to benefit Adoption RI.

On Friday May 22, 2009 at 6:00 PM there will be a fundraiser for Adoption RI. The location of the fundraiser will be the Knights of Columbus 475 Sandy Lane in Warwick. There will be food, fun, music, and a silent auction. Pasta and meatballs will be provided by Chelo's. Tickets are $15 each and can purchased by contacting Doreen or Ken Silva at 401-739-1843 or email your request to blacklizardacdmy@cox.net

Visit www.adoptionri.org for more information about this wonderful organization.

My hope and prayer is that our world be filled with more people like the Silva's. We would truly realize our vision of "a healthier world one family at a time".

Thanks in advance for any support you can offer!

 Be Well,

Dr. Gary
